The Valley of Dry Bones

Type your paragraph here.

In the book of Ezekiel, in the Old Testament, there is a story that is told by the prophet. Ezekiel tells how the Lord carried him out in the spirit to a valley that was full of dry bones.  The Lord asks the prophet if the bones could live again. Ezekiel 37:4 “Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breathe to enter into you, and ye shall live. And I will lay sinews (by analogy a tendon) upon you and will bring flesh upon you and cover you with skin, and put breath in you and ye shall live and ye shall know that I am the Lord.”

So Ezekiel did as he was commanded and prophesied unto the bones. Verses 7& 9 say, “and as I prophesied, there was a noise, and behold a shaking, and the bones came together, bone to his bone. but no breath was in them. Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord God; Come from the four winds,

O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live.”  Ezekiel did as he was commanded and an exceedingly great  Army stood up upon their feet.  When I visualize this story I can see a parallel with the valley of dry bones and the pews of dry bones that fill the churches of America. To our dismay, the bones that occupy our church pews have become dry.

The average Christian has become complacent.  One definition of the word complacent is self-satisfied or unconcerned, which is a vivid picture of the average Christian, when it comes to the unsaved population of this world.  We come in contact with unsaved people all day long. It is estimated that only 7% of the world’s population know where they will spend eternity. That means for every 100 people that you meet, know, or come in contact with 93 men, women, boys and girls will spend an eternity in the lake of fire.  That, my friend, is an alarming thought.

These statistics alone should motivate us to fulfill the commandment that Jesus gave us before leaving this earth. Mark 16:15 says “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel’ to every creature.”  How can we sit back and watch 93 of 100 people go to hell. We must do all we can to turn this tide.

I would venture to say that most Christians think that it is the job of the pastors, teachers and evangelist to witness to the unsaved. Well, the last time I looked, that is not what the Bible says. It is a commandment to all believers.

God can use you in whatever circumstances that you find yourself. You don’t need any higher education or a lot of free time. All God needs from you is a willing heart and obedience. Ask him where He wants you to start.

One of the best ways to show others Jesus is to show him in our everyday lives. Whether you realize it or not the unsaved are looking at your life and making judgments of Jesus and Christianity as a whole. Therefore, the witness of every believer starts with the life of each believer.

Do not waste another day, ask God to shake your bones, put skin back on your bones and breathe the Holy Spirit into your nostrils so He can change this dying world through you. .
